KTM and Continental, partners one more time

The arrival of the KTM 890 Duke 2021 has been one of the most expected motorcycles of the season. The new naked of the Austrian brand arrives to replace its predecessor, the KTM 790 Duke, and does so with more power, improvements in electronics, and most importantly, with Continental ContiRoad as the original tire.

The new KTM 890 Duke shares engine block with its previously presented sister, the 890 Duke R (a version with more power and a little more equipped), as well as bodywork and chassis, although with a more basic cycle. The naked arrives with renewed electronics, with a 6-axis IMU, electronic throttle, various riding modes, traction control and ABS, among others. However, the weight remains the same weight as its predecessor, with a total dry weight of 169 kg.

Following the look of the Duke family, the new KTM has not changed the bodywork or  its graphics, it has LED lights and customizable TFT display.

ContiRoad, the most versatile tires of the sport-touring range.

It is not the first time that KTM trusts Continental to fit one of its models, last year we also announced that the KTM 390 Adventure 2020 went to market with the TKC 70 as standard. On this time, ContiRoad tires have been chosen to dress the new KTM 890 Duke, tires that are part of the sport-touring range of Contiental, which went on sale last year and have already achieved excellent references from users and specialists.

Among them, we find KTM test rider Jeremy McWilliams (also a former Moto GP rider and winner of the mythical Northwest 200 race), who has been in charge of testing the ContiRoad on the Contidrom test track. “The ContiRoad starts working immediately, giving the rider great confidence from the moment he starts moving, among other qualities, it is able to transmit excellent information from both the front and rear tires,” explained McWilliams.

The ContiRoad also stands out for its high level of grip, even in wet or wet conditions: “In terms of grip in both wet and dry conditions, the ContiRoad works exceptionally well, the benefits it offers in all conditions, with a generous working range combined with great absorption of road irregularities, make the ContiRoad a leader in this sector”.

Developed in Korbach (Germany), the ContiRoad has the genes of the ContiRoadAttack 3: agile handling, high mileage, and excellent grip. It is radial, versatile and positioned as a road, asphalt and sport-touring tire. It can be used both by the user who uses two wheels on a daily basis, as well as by those who spend their weekends putting miles on their motorcycles.

In order to achieve these qualities, Continental has applied three of its leading technologies to the ContiRoad: ZeroDegree -created with a more rigid and lighter structure that helps improve riding precision and handling of the bike-, RainGrip -provides more grip in the wet, also increasing mileage- and Performance over Time -makes the tire reach the end of its life without reducing its performance-.
