And the Winner is Continental!
Seven of the latest hypersport tires were put to the test in Austria with the ContiSportAttack 4 taking top honors with the best overall rating of 94 out of 100 possible points.
Motorrad Magazine, one of the industry’s leading motorcycle publications, subjected tires from motorcycle tire manufactures to a wide-ranging and grueling testing process that put the tires to the test and demonstrated performance in a variety of conditions. In the end, two of the seven candidates secured the “Buying recommendation” in their 6/2020 issue, including Continental’s new ContiSportAttack 4 which achieved the best overall rating.
Warm-up time, grip with cold and warm tires, handling, dry and wet braking as well as self-damping were the measurable criteria. Trust in extreme lean-angles and trust in wet conditions were among the subjective evaluation criteria. To ensure test impartially, the test rider was led “blind” to the KTM 790 Duke used for the test (120/70 ZR 17 & 180/55 ZR 17).
Continental’s ContiSportAttack 4 received the best overall rating in the test with 94 out of 100 possible points, including a best in class nod for braking distance, and 10s out of 10 for Cold Grip, Warm Grip, Handling, Trust in Wet, and Trust in Extreme Angles.
The final feedback of the tester was accordingly positive: “The Conti brings a sensational grip immediately after starting off and therefore works perfectly even at lower temperatures. The trust in extreme lean angles is excellent and the handling was far better than any of the other test candidates – whether on dry or wet asphalt”.
Compared to other tested tires in the field (and by a wide-margin), the ContiSportAttack 4 provides the fastest warm-up time, so you get the perfect grip from the beginning and at lower temperatures. No matter if the surface is dry or wet, no other tire is better in extreme lean angles and the handling.
More about the ContiSportAttack 4…
Maximum grip, accuracy and easy handling are key attributes riders can expect with the ContiSportAttack 4 which features a more aggressive sport design without compromising wet traction. The tire’s new tread pattern includes a solid backbone for higher mileage and is optimized for lateral and circumferential forces, with a larger footprint for better grip in extreme lean angles. That coupled with the tire’s steel-belt construction technology, known as ZeroDegree, provides excellent stability at high speeds, while maintaining a comfortable, but sporty feel.
The ContiSportAttack 4 is engineered with multiple next-generation technologies to improve grip, including Continental’s premium BlackChili Sport-Compound which improves grip traction in wet or dry conditions.
It also has RainGrip compound technology that delivers superior wet grip yet maintaining higher mileage. This is made possible by specially-activated silica in the compound.
To top it off, Conti also added GripLimitFeedback to increase rider safety during extreme lean angles with timely feedback from the tires for a higher level of control at the limit. Grip is an obvious theme of the ContiSportAttack 4, but the engineers went a step further by ensuring that the break-in time of this tire is virtually zero by equipping it with TractionSkin, a revolutionary micro-rough tread surface and mold-coating technology, which eliminates the need for tire-release agents, and virtually puts an end to tire break-in.
