Bruno Langlois and Travis Newbold finished 3rd and 1st in their respective classes during the 95th annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Both Langlois and Newbold raced with ContiTrack soft compounds slick tires. Bruno competed in the heavyweight motorcycle category with a 2017 Kawasaki Z900 while Travis raced in the exhibition powersport category with a Bottpower XR1R.
Frenchman and double Pikes Peak champion Langlois recorded a time of 10:12.317, –around .8 secs faster than his 2016 run- some 22 seconds behind the more powerful KTM 1290 Super Duke R racers of Rennie Scaysbrook and rookie Chris Fillmore. American and veteran Pikes Peak rider Newbold, won with the 4th overall motorcycle fastest time of 10:28.552. With over 78 two and four wheel competitors, Langlois and Newbold managed to finish on top of the time sheet thanks to their bikes, effort and some really sticky and grippy ContiTrack slick tires. ContiTrack soft compound slicks are Continental’s race compound slick tires for the ultimate levels of performance when competing on track and feature an optimized carcass structure that provides greater stability when braking, for more precise steering and overall handling.
Bruno and Travis are no strangers to speed and know their way around a hill climb. Riders negotiated the 12.42 mile, 156 turn course from a starting line at 9,390 feet above sea level to a staggering climax of 14,115 feet above sea level, hence the famous nickname, “The Race to the Clouds”.
While Bruno competed in a race prepped 2017 Kawasaki Z900, Travis raced the Bottpower XR1R, a customized race bike from a small Spanish motorsport engineering company specialized in designing and building motorcycles. The Bottpower XR1R uses a powerful V-Twin engine and a very light titanium frame for maximum on-track performance.
Continental was able to shine and stand up to its reputation at the 95th annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event. We are very passionate to compete at one of the most famous hill climb events in the USA and continue supporting racers with passion to win.
