The Only 100% Motorcycle Road Course
Two miles of twisted black asphalt with 14 turns. It is officially known as Jennings GP — the only 100% motorcycle road course in the US. At Jennings GP, located just off Interstate 75 in Jennings, FL, motorcyclists can experience track riding in a safe environment, free of cars and trucks and on-coming traffic.
Track owner, Borg Larsen, a commercial pilot by trade, wanted a safe place to ride his motorcycle and had an idea. That idea blossomed into the Jennings GP track we know today. The track was designed by experienced rider/racer/instructor Ed Bargy and took 18 months to build before opening for business in 2001. Borg, his wife Jacky and their staff run a great program of private and open track days January through March and re-opening September through December.
New track riders can attend a Jennings GP Novice school to learn the ins and outs of track riding and racers can obtain their WERA, CCS or FMRRA racing license at one of the Ed Bargy racing license schools. Leather suits, boots and gloves are available to rent if you don’t have you own or just left something at home. Small essentials like oil and such are also available, but riders must bring their own fuel.
Great tires are an essential item for getting the most out of a track day or riding school experience and the Jennings GP staff has you covered with a full range of Continental racing and track day tires in stock and ready to mount on your wheels. Continental racing tire distributor, Eric Komrowski’s Monkey Works Cycle, works closely with the Jennings staff to be sure they are always stocked with the right tires. “Jennings is our home track and a great place for testing and tuning. They run a very safe program that offers a great segway from street riding to track riding and eventually racing if the rider desires,” says Komrowski.
Jennings GP also offers motorcycle rentals for riders needing a track-ready bike or situations where bringing you own isn’t practical. Of course, that rental fleet which includes a KTM RC390, Yamaha R3 and R6 models are all outfitted with Continental tires. “Continental tires are ideally suited to the track surface here at Jennings providing the grip and longevity needed for a successful event”, added Komrowski.
Track owner Jacky Larsen says “We have riders from all over the world here at Jennings, including repeat customers from Sweden, the Netherlands and Canada. Racers from Europe come here to train in their off-season thanks to the warm Florida weather. We even have a Canadian customer that brings his camper trailer and stays for months at a time. Safety is our number goal here at the track with fun being the number two goal.”
If you need a place to ride or want to experience riding on a track yet this winter Jennings GP is the place to go. Better yet, bring your camper and your bike and stay awhile. Check them out here for more information. www.jenningsgp.com
