A Select Group of Journalists Put It to the Test
Continental recently hosted an exclusive event in Austria to introduce the new Continental ContiAttack SM 2 tire. A select group of international journalists, including representatives from leading motorcycle media outlets, were invited to test the tire firsthand.
The two-day event was held at the prestigious PURADIES Naturresort, welcoming journalists from various parts of the world, including riders from Motorcyclist, ChaseOnTwoWheels, RoadRacing World and more. The gathering aimed to showcase the new street-legal supermoto tire, with attendees experiencing its performance both on the road and on Continental’s test track in Austria.
The motorcycles chosen for testing the ContiAttack SM 2 included two of the most powerful supermoto models on the market: the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto and the KTM 690 SMC R. Additionally, the KTM 390 Duke was selected to demonstrate the tire’s capabilities on mid-sized bikes.
The first part of the test took place at Continental’s test circuit in Austria, a compact track with elevation changes and road-like asphalt, ideal for pushing the tire’s performance and grip to the limits. Later, the journalists embarked on a varied 180-kilometer route through Austrian highways and the winding roads of the Alps, further evaluating the tire’s real-world performance.
Technical details of the ContiAttack SM 2 were also revealed. This tire succeeds the ContiAttack SM EVO, offering significant improvements in behavior, grip, and mileage. These enhancements are attributed to a new design that increases the tread depth at both the front and rear, extending the tire’s lifespan by up to 20% under sporty use. The new supermoto tires also perform better in wet conditions, enhancing bike handling and directional changes.
Key technologies in the ContiAttack SM 2 include GripLimitFeedback, which boosts safety at extreme lean angles by providing more control and confidence to the rider. Additionally, the tire features RainGrip technology, delivering excellent wet weather grip thanks to a specially activated silica compound.
